Professional Ivory Coast Djembe Drums

These are Professional Quality Ivory Coast Djembe drums. I import these direct these are the best you will find; finely carved of sound Iroko heart wood, quality rope, a superb playing edge, nice tight rings, and a fine goat skin head. Ivory Coast djembe drums have thicker heads with give a nice dry slap and rich tones. The shape accentuates the bass. Even the smaller drums have great bass. These are great drums to learn on as the edge is wide and rounded, and the top ring lower to prevent injury.
Don't be confused! We measure drums by the wood diameter (11 inch drum = between 10.5 and 11.5 inches wood diameter)! Others often tell you the ring size which is 1-2 inches larger! A eleven inch drum here will equal what others call a 12 inch drum! These exact drums are what you will be shipped. When ordering note the inventory number below each drum and select that number in the drop down box on the store page. Those marked SOLD! are gone, but I can check and see if one similar is available.

Email the address in the header above or call me (Nels) at 715-263-2756 if you'd like more information about these, or to discuss which might be the best for you!

You are buying THE EXACT DRUMS pictured here,
not a substitute, not one "well, kind of close".. The EXACT DRUM!

Professional Ivory Coast Djembe Drums

Selected from hundreds of djembe drums, these all have the qualities I require. This year I specifically ordered smaller drums even though they are no cheaper than the larger ones. WHY? . because I actually sent the carving profile I wanted and these have exactly that. A nice rounded and tapered bowl, a balance between bowl and trumpet at roughly 50%, and a evenly flared trumpet with the narrowest point just below the bowl. These are by far the sweetest sounding Ivory Coast drums I have ever had, and they are small enough to tune up easy and travel where ever you go!

Why are these cheaper than Guinea Drums? These great drums are carved in the classic style, and carved of beautiful Iroko wood (A medium hardness fast growing tropic wood). They are made by the Ivory Coasts leading carver who has years of experience, and has learned to work with American requirements. These djembes use all African materials and have the best African rope, and are headed by the best, most experienced craftsmen. Your satisfaction is absolutely guaranteed!

A beautiful classic Ivory Coast drum, it is carved of dense, hard lenke wood. It has a rich and dry slap, and full bass. This one has the full and slightly rounded bowl that really produces the sound I love. A wide trumpet gives it that "talking voice".

A slightly slimmer shape, but still a growler. This djembe has a heavy skin for that dry slap and is a good lead drum. I still love the stepped bottom on Ivory Coast drums. I have more stylish drums but these are the classic design, and this drum epitomizes the qualities of this style.

A slightly warmer skin on this djembe gives it a growling pitch. It has a stately shape and Mountain and Field carving to match. With a little constricted throat, it has great bass for its size. A nice little melody drum

Never played a Bougarabou? You gotta try one! They are carved of the same dense Iroko heart wood, and have the finest cowhide mounted, hair on. They have the richest mello conga type sound and a powerful bass. The sound is similar drum to drum so I'm not describing them individually, but only because I haven't played one I didn't fall in love with. We include one in our African Drum ensemble in place of a bass djembe, as the sound of these growls past a djembe and adds a depth that is unrivaled! You need a conga slap technique for good definition and they do toughen your hands with the stiff skin. In a pinch i use one with a stick for a sangba bass drum. Beautiful and once you try one, you may turn your djembe into an orphan!

I specifically ordered these djembe height so they are easier to play sitting down (Bougarabou Drums often are 26-30" tall).
